How To Handle Digital Marketing In A Coronavirus World

There’s no sugarcoating it, this pandemic sucks and it doesn’t look like it’ll slow down anytime soon. The good news in Minnesota is that people are doing a good job of staying home and practicing social distancing. The more we do this, the more we’ll flatten the curve and reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

But shutdowns and stay-at-home orders are causing a problem that can’t be ignored. The brutal reality is that many businesses are struggling. We know a number of our clients have had questions about how to adjust their marketing strategy to fit our new “normal”. Here are a few things to consider:

Expect to see drops in analytics

Plain and simple, unless you’re selling toilet paper and other essential items, people probably aren’t searching for your products and services right now.

It’s easy to get discouraged, but rest assured you’re not alone. We’ve been seeing drops in website traffic across the board with companies from a variety of industries.

Consider taking a break from paid digital advertising

If you’re rolling with a tight budget, don’t be afraid to pause the PPC campaigns for the time being. However, if you’re in an industry where keyword bids are surprisingly low, then take advantage of the prices if your budget allows.

Use social media and email to stay connected and lend your support

We’ve been busy helping out our clients the past couple of weeks by crafting announcements, social media posts, and email blasts. The goal for every company right now should be to stay in touch with customers and clients.

Let people know if your company is temporarily closing its doors or if you’re operating business-as-usual. Keep them posted on your updates and let them know you that you care. This isn’t a time to go radio-silent, it’s time to show solidarity.

Stay the course with SEO

We can’t stress this enough: Don’t give up on search engine optimization (SEO)! We know website traffic may be dropping. Leads may be slowing down drastically. But if you stop producing content and quit optimizing your website, it’s only going to hurt your business more in the long run.

We don’t know how long this current situation is going to last. But we do know that whenever things get back to normal (or we find a new normal), SEO is still going to be important for online success. Stay the course with your SEO strategies and eventually things will start looking up!
